This newborn baby has been found on a riverbank after reportedly being abandoned by its 17-year-old mother who has now been arrested.
The abandonment took place in the neighbourhood of San Miguel El Zunzo in the city of Jalapa in the department with the same name in south-eastern Guatemala.
The National Civil Police of Guatemala confirmed that a newborn child, whose sex was not reported, was reportedly found after it had been abandoned on a riverbank in the city.
Reports claim local resident Rosa Perez, 39, found the baby and called the police.
In the photos, police officers and a woman can be seen holding the tot wrapped in a yellow blanket after it was found on the riverbank.
The images also show the teenager mother in handcuffs during her arrest by local authorities while she gets into a police vehicle.
Reports state the local authorities immediately went to the scene and reportedly transferred the baby to a health care centre.
The 17-year old mother was arrested according to the local authorities, but her name has not been reported.
The health condition of the baby, as well as why the mother abandoned the child, are also unknown.
It is unclear if the mother will be charged.
