This is the moment a nanny repeatedly slaps and manhandles a toddler she is supposed to be looking after in a public play park.

The incident was filmed at an indoor park in the northern Macedonian capital Skopje and was later shared on YouTube where it has been viewed 205,000 times.

In the footage, the nanny is seen repeatedly slapping the boy’s face and slamming him down onto a chair as his two older siblings play nearby.

The footage, which was released by the park’s owner, sparked outrage online and the police have launched an investigation.

Meanwhile, the nanny has reportedly been arrested and held in custody for 30 days as the probe continues.

The toddler’s mother named the nanny as 59-year-old Zivka Pejovska and said that she paid the carer 500 EUR (428 GBP) a month to look after her three children while she was at work.

She told local media: “I watched the whole recording and was filled with pain and anger. I saw her suffocating my child and putting her disgusting hands over my son’s nose and mouth.

“I want her to be investigated for attempted murder, not just neglect and child abuse. My boy cannot sleep and is crying all the time.”

She added: “I noticed scratches and bruises on my kids before, but she always had good excuses like they fell over or had been scratched by other children while playing.

“I blindly believed her because I convinced myself she was a licensed nanny who came from an agency and knew what she was doing.”

The police investigation is ongoing.
