A nursery school teacher has been sacked after she allegedly ordered two boys and two girls to repeatedly slap themselves across the face for refusing to taking a nap.

Chen Lizhu, who taught at the privately run Weijia Kindergarten in the county of Yuxi, in East China’s Jiangsu Province, was suspended and docked three months’ pay by her employers.

However, the Yuxi County Education Bureau has asked that Ms Chen be dismissed, and she is not expected to work in the profession again.

The punishment comes after CCTV images from Ms Chen’s classroom showed several of her pupils queuing in front of her as each of them is reportedly ordered to slap themselves on the cheek.

In the footage, two girls and two boys slap themselves on the face between eight and 10 times, with each child then allowed to leave after completing the punishment.

The nursery school released a statement in response to furious complaints by parents, saying the incident happened after the pupils refused to nap at noon and disturbed their classmates by playing.

According to reports, the parents have accepted the school’s punishment and the dismissal recommended by officials.

They will be pursuing no further charges, reports added.
