Crowned Miss Disqualified From National Competition For Being A Mother

A Brazilian crowned Miss has been disqualified from the national competition – for having a child.

Carla Cristina from Cruzeiro do Sul, who was crowned Miss Mundo Acre 2023, told her Instagram fans on 7th February that she was disqualified from the National Beauty Pageant (CNB) and banned from competing for Miss Mundo Brasil.

Carla, who has a 20-month-old daughter, could not hide her tears when she told her followers the disappointing news.

She said: “I just had my title withdrawn.

“Anyone who knows me knows, anyone who lives with me knows how much I worked, I did raffles, I even sold soup to pay my fee, which was BRL 5,000 [GBP 794], and they don’t work with refunds.

“The reason I was removed is because I’m a mother.

“I always asked if a mother could participate. I have prints, and they always said yes.

“I, confident, went, paid for everything correctly, and in the end, my title was withdrawn.”

However, Carla said she will not give up on participating in beauty pageants.

She said: “They took away my title, and I’ve never hidden the fact that I’m a mother.

“I don’t expose Jade that much here on Instagram, but I always post something about her.

The regional coordinator of the National Beauty Pageant, Sidney Lins, told local media that she did not know Carla was a mother.

She said: “She didn’t pass it on to me as a coordinator that she was a mother. I was taken by surprise. And, as per the regulations, unfortunately, she can’t go to the nationals.”

Lins also said that Carla will not lose her title, but is not allowed to take part in the national competition.

And she said: “We had a regulation that already said that the candidate could not have a child, nor be married.

“There were no changes, everyone was aware that the regulations were that and none of the candidates spoke out or informed me that they were mothers or married.”

National Beaty Pageant said in a note to local media: “On October 29, 2022, Carla Cristina was elected Miss Acre Mundo 2023, in a contest organized by Sidney Lins, state coordinator of the CNB in the State of Acre.

“Since its creation in 1951, Miss World has had the rule that candidates must be single, not mothers, without ever having been either.”

They added: “This week, it became known to CNB that Carla Cristina is a mother. When asked, coordinator Sidney Lins stated that he did not know that Carla Cristina is a mother.

And we clarify that, as a licensed organization of an international competition, we must follow the rules of the same, regardless of our own vision or will.

“We have absolutely nothing against mothers, quite the opposite. The fact is that we follow rules that must be respected.

“We hope that Acre’s coordination will clarify the situation with the young woman in the best way possible for all parties involved, and we deeply regret that we are unable to accept the candidate’s application.”
