This is the moment a couple cheat death as massive slabs of concrete drop from three floors up and smash into their Volkswagen car just as they are getting in.

The lucky couple from the city of Yangzhou in East China’s Jiangsu Province were seconds away from climbing into their Volkswagen saloon which sustained a shattered windscreen during the incident on 21st September.

Security footage from Jiangyang West Road shows the pair standing near their VW when the concrete blocks measuring over 10 feet in combined length crash down from a nearby residential building.

The husband jumps away in shock while his wife stands petrified next to the car, which is damaged along with a parked BMW nearby.

The concrete slabs, each of which was reportedly over 1.5 inches thick, was found to have come loose and fallen from the outside of a third-floor home.

It then fell over 30 feet onto the two parked cars, just avoiding the couple standing below.

The building in question was identified as Block B of the Lijing City Apartments, which was built less than a decade ago in October 2009.

Neighbouring resident Ms Chen recalled: “It was incredibly loud and scared me.

“The couple were very, very lucky. A bit to the side and they would’ve died.”

City officials are investigating the case.
