This footage shows a coach driver using his mobile phone with both hands and then making a phone call while travelling down the fast lane of a motorway.

Bus operator Zhao Qingbo was driving dozens of passengers along the Yitong-Liaoyuan Expressway when a concerned customer filmed the video and tagged traffic police on social media on 7th October.

Motorway authorities in Yitong Manchu Autonomous County, which is in north-eastern China’s Jilin Province, took notice.

In the video, Zhao is seen holding his smartphone with his left hand while swiping away at the screen with his right, all the while steadying the bus’s steering wheel using the back of his left hand.

The brazen and overly casual driver, who was transporting passengers between the provincial capital Changchun and the city of Liaoyuan, spent several minutes texting on instant-messaging application WeChat, the passenger said.

The unnamed passenger wrote they were left “trembling with anxiety” as Zhao even started making a phone call while continuing to travel at speed down the motorway’s fast lane, the video shows.

Yitong county police tracked Zhao down, fined him 200 RMB (22 GBP), and gave him two demerit points for dangerous driving.

He has also been suspended for a month but appears to have kept his job despite endangering his passengers.
