This footage shows a woman driver zigzagging backwards along the side of a motorway for a reported six minutes in her Mercedes-Benz after she overshot a slip road.

The risky stunt on was captured in full by traffic cameras on the Beijing-Taipei Expressway over the city of Xuzhou, which is in Jiangsu Province in East China.

Mercedes-Benz owner Ms Chen later explained to the police that she had intended to take an exit but drove straight past it on 6th October.

She stopped in the emergency lane and reversed towards it, but the video shows bungling woman weaving in and out of the hard shoulder as she fails to reverse in a straight line.

This happens as numerous vehicle speed past her on the busy motorway during China’s National Day holidays.

Xuzhou traffic officer Gou Gao revealed that Ms Chen reversed a distance of 500 metres (1,640 feet) – and spent six minutes doing it.

Officer Gou said: “The white saloon car can be seen crossing between the vehicle lane and emergency lane as it slowly reverses on the motorway.

“We can see that the driver is not very skilled, and snakes along as she reverses the car.”

Ms Chen was summoned the following day and deducted 12 points from her licence for dangerous driving.

According to Chinese traffic law, a 12-point penalty within a one-year period results in an immediate revocation of one’s driving licence.
