Child Aged One Run Over And Killed By Pensioner In SUV As She Dashed Over Road To Playground

This laughing little one-year-old girl grinning from her cot has died after she was run over by an SUV driver right in front of her home.

The incident happened when little Lola from the town of Gransee, in the Oberhavel district, Brandenburg State, Germany, managed to get out of the house and ran into the street on Sunday, 17th September.

Her parents Kerstin Posch and her partner Michael were about to take her to a playground in front of their home on Baustrasse, but stopped to throw the trash in the bin when the girl ran into the road at 5.50 pm.

Seconds later, she was found on the street covered in blood after an 85-year-old lady, identified only as Renate Sch. hit her with her white Volkswagen Tiguan.

Brandenburg Police said in a statement obtained by Newsflash: “According to initial findings, the girl ran onto the road in a moment when she was unobserved, and was hit by the VW car driven by an 85-year-old driver.

“The parents were on their way from the courtyard of the house to the street.

“The child suffered serious [head] injuries as a result of the collision and died at the scene of the accident.”

Renate Sch. was reportedly on her way to Berlin after having visited her sister in the town of Fuerstenberg, when she ran over the child.

The OAP was not even aware she had struck Lola before a cyclist reportedly told her: “You just ran over someone.”

She later told police that she thought she ‘ had driven over a bump’, media revealed.

Emergency crews rushed on-site in an attempt to save the child, but they could only confirm her death after half an hour of trying to resuscitate her.

Police said: “The section of road in the relevant area was completely closed to investigate the accident.

“Employees from the criminal investigation service, forensic science, and an accident expert were deployed.”

Following the incident, Lola’s mum initiated a fundraiser to collect money that would help both her and her husband’s families, in Austria and South Africa, respectively, to say their final goodbyes.

Written in the name of the child, the campaign said: “My parents’ greatest wish is that they say goodbye to me in their home countries, Austria and South Africa.

“My parents and I thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”

A total of EUR 12,080 (GBP 10,487) was raised out of a EUR 10,000 (GBP 8,681) goal.
