Nine Crushed To Death Including Two-Year-Old Child During Baptism Service

At least nine people including a two-year-old child died and dozens were injured when a church collapsed without warning during a baptism ceremony.

More than half of the 100-strong congregation were buried by rubble, reports local media in Mexico.

Latest local media reports say that 30 people are thought to still be trapped under the debris.

Horrific CCTV footage filmed in Ciudad Madero shows the Church of Santa Cruz falling in on itself like a house of cards on 1st October.

Inside the church was packed for a morning service and a mass baptism with dozens of families, reports local media.

As the walls and roof collapse the church disappears in a cloud of dust and debris as people nearby run for cover.

Local police say the complete cave in was triggered when the roof of the church building fell in due to structural failure.

They say a two-year-old baby was among nine dead.

Two women with head injuries were rushed to hospital, and a two-year-old child lost their life, as stated by local authorities.

Tamaulipas State Governor Americo Villareal said he had issued rescue experts, search dogs and excavators to look for survivors.

The search and rescue operation is ongoing.
