A teenage girl has died after walking backwards and falling almost 50 ft from a roof while filming friends on her smartphone.

Iva Mamutovic, 19, fell 15 metres (49 ft) from the roof in the city of Nis in south-eastern Serbia, and died at the scene after landing on concrete.

She had been filming two male friends, named as Aleksandar Z, 20, and Mihajlo Z, 19, on the roof when she accidentally stepped backwards over the edge, according to local media.

Local residents, who heard the screams of Ms Mamutovic and her friends, rushed to her side but she had suffered horrific head injuries.

An ambulance was called to take her to hospital but paramedics examined her and declared her dead at the scene.

One local resident, who declined to be named, said: “I looked out of the window and saw a body.

“There was blood coming from her head. I immediately called an ambulance which arrived quickly. I saw a guy shouting: “Iva, Iva… Help, help!”.”

Another neighbour added: “I heard cries for help. I didn’t know what was happening.

“I went out and saw my neighbour holding the head of a girl who was injured but still showing signs of life. I was stunned.”

The teenager did not live in the building but one of the young men who was with her had previously lived there with his family, according to residents.

Miss Mamutovic’s family are said to be too shocked to comment about her death. Police are reportedly treating the incident as a tragic accident.
