An eyewitness has claimed that the 16-year-old boy who allegedly threw his newborn baby into a Barcelona river went to a pub afterwards and was “very calm” as he waited for his parents.

According to witnesses, the teenager was seen at La Catalana Bar in the neighbourhood of Sant Adria in Barcelona in the eastern Spanish region of Catalonia, with his clothes all wet.

Reports said the 16-year-old Colombian father visited the bar next to the Besos River on 24th September at around 6pm.

A witness who sat next to the boy at the counter told local media: “He was very calm. He was not anxious or anything like that. I saw that he was soaked to the skin and he told me his football had gone in the river.”

The unnamed bar owner said that the boy remained in the bar for around 15 minutes until his parents arrived to take him to the police station where he reportedly confessed to throwing his baby in the river.

According to local media, the Colombian suspect was dating a girl the same age and their families did not know about the pregnancy.

The couple decided to keep it a secret and then allegedly planned to kill the infant once it was born.

Local media said that some witnesses saw the suspect digging a hole on the riverbank and when he was spotted, he allegedly threw the baby into the water.

It is unknown if the newborn was already dead at the time.

The police have confirmed that they found a suitcase containing clothes and blood splatters at the spot where the teenage said he threw the baby.

The authorities are still trying to find the body, but investigators fear “the baby may have been dragged [by the currents] to the sea where locating it will be more difficult”.

The investigation continues.
