A babysitter boasted she was about to become “a star” shortly before being arrested with the charred body of a baby boy she is accused of strangling and then stabbing to death.

The family said that 23-year-old Victoria Aymetdinova was a friend of the family. The baby’s mother, Natalya Gafner, told told local media that Aymetdinova even lived with her husband’s son from his first marriage, and added that she had often looked after her six-month-old son Bogdan when she needed help.

She said: “On 24th September, we went for a couple of hours to a funeral and left Victoria to look after the baby. When we arrived back home, neither she nor our son were there! We began to call her, but she was disconnected. We looked around the house and noticed that she took nothing for Bogdan: neither a bottle, nor diapers. So we called the police.”

Local media carried reports saying that the woman had allegedly snapped and carried out the killing, after believing she was about to be ditched by her boyfriend, Andrey Gafner. They had reportedly had a huge row and he had made it clear he wanted her to move out.

Russian state police on their official web site confirmed the arrest earlier this week on 24th September after the baby vanished from its house in Severnaya Street in the town.

They say that the woman left the home around midday, and went to a nearby woodland area behind the house and an hour later she murdered the baby.

Police found her three kilometres from the house and the baby’s charred body was found in a bag that she had with her, according to a statement by Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia in the Tyumen Oblast.

In a social media post she had spoken about the Antichrist and said that mankind was going to Hell, with the “countdown to destruction beginning with the war that is going to come”.

It was also revealed that she had a previous conviction in 2014 for attacking “a minor”, for which she paid 15,000 RUB (188 GBP) in compensation. A year later she was given probation for an attack on a policeman.

She remains in investigative custody and a video released by police shows her in handcuffs shortly after her arrest.
