Jessica Lucia Aviles had been about to marry her fiance Santiago Restrepo at a luxury civil ceremony in Chinu, Cordoba department, Colombia.
But as the couple were swapping rings and making vows horrified guests heard Jessica tell the official: “I won’t get married.”
The statement was made just as the public notary had just asked the bride, wearing a stunning white gown: “In your sane and sound mind, is it your free and spontaneous will to contract a civil marriage through the notarial procedure with Santiago Restrepo Vega?”
But a video of the ceremony, which emerged on 20th December, shows Jessica telling the official that the wedding is off.
Open-mouthed groom Santiago seems to be in shock as his fiancee tells the official “I don’t know, because there have been some problems, precisely today.”
Jessica went on to tell the registrar that her groom had lied about how his family felt about the wedding, and were mean to her children from an earlier relationship.
She said: “His father does not agree, Santiago lied to me.”
“He told me that his father was super happy, that he had paid for the wedding.
“He lets his father rule him, so I won’t get married.”
As she gives Santiago the wedding ring she was about to slip on his finger Jessica adds: “I mean, how did they treat my daughters when I arrived?
“That’s not how I’m getting married.
“I told you my children come first.”
The baffled notary then asks her: “Then why did you come here?”
Jessica replies: “I came because I have found out about this now. If I’d known I wouldn’t have come.”
The footage ends with Santiago awkwardly struggling to pull the wedding ring he had just given Jessica off her finger.
A second piece of footage shows Santiago’s family leaving the place of the wedding to the jeers of the guests.
It later emerged that the groom’s family had left the wedding without paying a penny towards the wedding bill, according to local media.
