A 14-year-old boy has reportedly admitted to killing his young niece and dumping her body in a creek with the help of his sister after the little girl pulled his arm and hit him.

Ikranur Tirsi, 7, disappeared near her home in the district of Bulancak in the northern Turkish province of Giresun, and the local authorities and a group of volunteers searched the area with sniffer dogs, drones, and thermal cameras.

The team of around 150 people eventually found the girl’s body in Adakoy Creek, about seven kilometres (4.3 miles) from her home.

The teen suspect, identified only by his initials S.T., claimed that seven-year-old Ikranur Tirsi made him angry when she pulled his arm and hit him.

He said he decided to hit her back and when she fell over and started crying, he put his hand over her mouth to stop her screaming.

He added: “I closed her mouth to silence her so that no one could hear her. She died when she was out of breath. I informed my sister about what happened. We carried the dead body and threw it into the creek.”

An autopsy is planned to see if she was still alive when she was thrown into the water, and the police confirmed that his sister Ayse Tirsi, who was the girl’s aunt, has also been arrested.

She posted on social media when the body was discovered that she was destroyed by news of the death, that she loved her niece very much, and would “never forget her”.

The Bulancak Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office requested the arrest of S.T. for ‘deliberate killing’ and Ayse Tirsi on charges of ‘destroying, changing or hiding criminal evidence’.
