This is the moment people covered in blood like a scene from a zombie horror movie are seen hacking lumps of flesh from dead and dying cows after an accident involving a cattle transporter.

The footage was shot after the truck carrying cows in the town of Pinto in the Argentinian province of Santiago del Estero was hit by a freight train at a crossing, killing many of the animals, with others injured.

The driver survived but the cattle were not so fortunate, with many killed or injured after the vehicle was torn in two.

When word spread, locals flooded to the region from nearby armed with knives, and they can be seen covered in blood as they hack lumps of flesh from the animals and hand them to people outside the vehicle.

They arrived with bags and boxes in which to carry away the meat, which was apparently being shipped from the ranch ‘Los Jagueles’ in the city of Tostado in the province of Santa Fe.

Local media reported that the crowds started gathering minutes after the collision near Pinto, which is around 235 kilometres from the provincial capital Santiago del Estero.

Antonio Eduardo Corrado, 44, who was driving the truck and was hospitalised, claimed he did not see the crossing or the train until it was too late.

The train was reportedly carrying a cargo of soyabeans.
