These images show the majestic tigers stopped by border cops on the way to Russia with no paperwork and poor living conditions are now set for a new life in Spain.

According to local media, a lorry with 10 tigers on board that was heading from Italy to the Russian Republic of Dagestan was stopped from entering Belarus.

Customs officials at the Polish Koroszczyn border crossing prevented the lorry from continuing its journey due to lack of necessary paperwork.

The vehicle had been allowed to pass by Polish border officials, however, Belarusian border guards sent it back and the lorry remained in Koroszczyn for four days, according to reports.

While the vehicle was kept at the crossing point, one tiger died and the Polish veterinary authorities found the others living in poor conditions.

The other nine tigers were taken to Poznan Zoo in central-western Poland and Canpol Zoo in Czluchow in the north-west of the country.

According to a statement by Poznan Zoo, thanks to the support of the Dutch organisation Animal Advocates, five of the tigers will be sent to a shelter in Spain while the other four will remain in Poznan Zoo and Canpol Zoo in Poland.

Animal Advocates is currently organising the logistics of the relocation before a date for the transfer is announced.
