According to local media, the 44th president of the United States, known for his love of music, was invited to the event by Yoshiki, who wrote on Instagram: “What a surprise! President Obama showed up. Having an amazing birthday in SF!”

Yoshiki, who did not elaborate on how he knows the former president, was reportedly attending a birthday event hosted by internet mogul Marc Benioff.

It is not the first time the Japanese icon has been snapped rubber shoulders with world leaders. In June, Yoshiki was pictured interacting with Queen Elizabeth II at a polo match in Surrey in the UK.

He will become the first Japanese artist to be featured on YouTube Originals as part of a group of renowned artists that includes Paul McCartney, Robert Downey Jr., Will Smith, Katy Perry, Ariana Grande, Demi Lovato, Mark Ronson, Dwayne Johnson and Taylor Swift.
