Two teenagers have been found dead in red plastic bags in the street just days after they escaped from a young offender’s institution during a brutal brawl.

The bodies were found in the neighbourhood of La Granja in the district of Comayaguela in the Honduran capital of Tegucigalpa in the department of Franciso Morazan in central Honduras.

According to local media, the bodies of Irson Joel Andino Camas, 17, and Williams Samir Flores Andino, 19, were found dead inside red plastic bags in a street close to their families’ houses.

The victims had reportedly escaped during a brawl in the Renaciendo young offender’s institution last week.

Reports state the bodies were transferred by local authorities to the morgue where an initial exam revealed they had marks on their bodies that indicate they might have been tortured.

The bodies were identified by their relatives on Monday who confirmed they had been in the young offender’s institution.

The violent brawl at Renaciendo resulted in the death of four minors and the escape of 12 young offenders last week while police managed to round up 20 who had also tried to escape.

The incident took place at around 5 pm when several inmates reportedly started fighting with weapons they had fashioned themselves.

Two inmates died in their cells while two others succumbed to their injuries at the Hospital Escuela Universitario (HEU), according to local media.

The youth detention centre houses around 80 offenders and many of them are reportedly linked with the 18th Street gang, also known as Calle 18, which is a transnational criminal organisation that started as a street gang in Los Angeles in the US.

The motive of the suspected killings is unknown and the investigation is ongoing.
