Arsenal Target In Terrifying Landing In Severe Weather In Belgium

Arsenal Dries Mertens was reportedly in a private jet that skidded off the runway in severe weather on his return to his native Belgium to recover from an injury.

The terrifying incident happened on a runway in the Belgian district of Deurne in the municipality of Antwerp on 30th January.

Napoli striker Dries Mertens, 33, was travelling back to his native Belgium to carry out part of his recovery after injuring his left ankle in the early stages of Napoli’s 1-0 loss against Inter Milan on 16th December last year.

According to online Dutch newspaper sportnieuws.nl, Mertens’ plane skidded off the runway leaving a trail of marks behind during the landing which took around two hours to complete. (https://bit.ly/36DLIOO)

The area had reportedly been experiencing heavy rain at the time of the incident.

The veteran striker and his dog were reported to be onboard the plane, but nobody was injured in the incident.

Napoli are currently fifth in Serie A, sitting nine points behind league leaders AC Milan.

They are expected to play Genoa on Saturday 6th February but the striker is not expected to return to the pitch until early March.

He has netted five goals so far this year with four of them coming in Serie A and one in the Europa League.
