This is the moment airport police clear out a packed terminal after a fire scare fills a terminal with smoke.

Footage from Xi’an Xianyang International Airport in China’s north-western Shaanxi Province shows panicking passengers dashing for the exits at Terminal 3 as others stand around not knowing how to react.

The thick, grey smoke filled the terminal hall at roughly 7:40pm local time on 21st November as travellers preparing to check in packed the airport.

Ground-floor fire alarms were triggered by the smoke during the fire scare, and staff members quickly evacuated all personnel according to safety protocol, the airport said in a statement.

The source of the smoke was discovered shortly thereafter, and it dispersed by 8pm, the statement added.

Footage shows officers having cordoned off much of the affected terminal space during the incident.

According to the airport, the smoke originated in one of the terminals private micro-rooms.

The facility, which is charged by the hour, is one of several options available to travellers who wish to rest between connecting flights.

Other services include an airport hotel and sleeping pods.

The airport said no one was harmed during the fire scare, which led to no significant delays.

However, the cause of the smoke inside the micro-room was still being investigated at the time of writing.
