This is the moment a female alpaca escapes her enclosure inside a shopping centre as people scream after her male pal tried to mount her.

The pair of fury animals were put on display at a shopping centre in the city of Pinghu, which is in East China’s Zhejiang Province, as part of a recent promotional event.

Footage shows the male and female alpacas – known as a ‘macho’ and a ‘hembra’ – standing inside their pen inside the shopping centre when one suddenly jumps on the back of the other.

The unwilling female tries to run away and ends up leaping out of the enclosure’s low barrier, leaving nearby shoppers screaming and running away.

In the footage shared to social media, the two alpacas are seen standing outside their pen as shoppers keep their distance.

A spokesman for the shopping centre said: “It happened during our animal-themed anniversary event. The alpacas were just one of the event locations.

“We had one male and one female. The male was on heat and wanted to mate, but the female didn’t want to and escaped.

“Our staff members caught them about a minute later, put them back in the pen and secured them with a rope.

“No one was harmed.”
