This is the moment an acrobatic horse suddenly rears up on its hind legs on a busy intersection in Turkey to avoid being hit by a car at the last moment.

The horse-and-cart owner reportedly took a wrong turn at the intersection in the neighbourhood of Kizilpinar in the district of Cerkezkoy in the Turkish province of Tekirdag last week, nearly causing an accident.

An oncoming motorist was unable to take evasive action in time after realising too late that they were heading towards a horse and cart.

The incident in which it seems the collision was inevitable was filmed by the security camera of a nearby shop and was released to the media yesterday (1st December).

As seen in the security camera footage, the frightened horse rears up when it notices the oncoming car and apparently escapes without injury as the car then speeds past underneath it.

The video also shows two people getting out of the cart to calm down the horse.

After the video was widely shared on social media, many netizens expressed their relief that the horse was unhurt in the incident.

One online user wrote: “The horse knows to show respect for a vehicle with 100 horsepower passing in front of it!”

Netizen ‘Hasan’ commented: “The horse was smarter than its owner and the driver of the oncoming white car. I wish drivers had the sharp reflexes and decision-making skills of horses.”
