A young father has been found guilty of beating his four-month-old son to death.

Daniel Gustavo Nunez, 21, was convicted by the court in the north-eastern Argentine city of Santa Fe, after CCTV footage was found of the young father beating his baby son, Thiago, over the last 14 days of his life.

Daniel, who formerly worked in a meat packing plant, has been in preventive detention since April, along with his wife, Daniela Estefania Tello, who is Thiago’s mother.

Thiago Emanuel Nunez died in hospital in Santa Fe on 18th April. An autopsy found he died from internal injuries and fractures caused by numerous blows. His parents were immediately arrested on suspicion of domestic abuse.

The recent finding of the video footage provided unequivocal evidence with which to charge Daniel with aggravated homicide and Daniela with complicity.

Participants in the trial were told how the footage, which was filmed both inside and outside their house, showed Daniel beating Thiago every day while he was holding him and sometimes when he was in his pushchair.

Daniel attacked Thiago with slaps, punches and he also shook his son, damaging his organs. He sometimes attacked the baby boy while he was sleeping.

The court was told that although Daniela was absent during the beatings, she must have known about them, due to Thiago’s extensive injuries, and she did not take him to see a doctor in time.

It has not been reported how long the pair face in jail.
