A Chinese couple has married in a whirlwind two-minute ceremony at the groom’s home attended by only six mask-wearing guests.

Zhang Long and Chen Xiao from the eastern Chinese province of Shandong were married in a short ceremony in the groom’s courtyard which featured the father of the bride as the host and his wife as the photographer, according to local media.

While many residents in China look to stay at home amid the coronavirus fears, many couples have postponed their weddings until further notice.

However, Zhang and Chen opted to continue full steam ahead, minus all the lavish trimmings and large guest list.

Zhang told local media: “We’re in a critical time of epidemic prevention and control, so we decided not to invite guests or hold a banquet.

“After all, a wedding is just a ceremony and the most important thing is our happiness.”

Wearing a face mask, the groom visited the bride’s house on the day of the wedding and lifted her veil to see a mask on her face too.

He said: “I didn’t even know the colour of the lipstick she was wearing.”

Before the viral outbreak, the couple planned to have a lavish feast for 50 guests and eight groomsmen and bridesmaids.

The bride said: “Everything was cancelled. He only spent a tiny amount of money to marry me, but it doesn’t matter, as long as he is the right man.”

The ceremony was presided over by the father of the bride and lasted no more than two minutes, according to reports.
