A greedy hamster that appears to have munched its way inside a tangerine and then stayed there as if it had built itself a house has proved a hit.
The footage of the cute hamster was posted online by Japanese Twitter user @hamudog5, where it quickly notched up a million views.
It was not revealed whether the citrus fruit had been hollowed out by the hamster or whether its owner had removed the fruit.
But the hamster was clearly enjoying herself and appears to have felt safe inside its makeshift den as the video shows.
Local media that followed upon the story reported that it is not healthy for hamsters to eat tangerine skin, only the flesh inside.
One netizen said: “I want to climb in there with it!”
Another added: “This is the Year of the Hamster!”
