Chelsea flop Alvaro Morata has said he and his wife had a “really bad time in London” because “so many things” were missing in their lives.
On-loan Blues striker Alvaro Morata, 26, spoke to Spanish news outlet “La Otra Cronica” (LOC; part of El Mundo) during his WAG Alice Campello’s release of a collection of watches she designed for Button Watch.
LOC report the football star was “smiling and in a relaxed tone” as he “finds himself at a high point”, however, the star opened up about his nightmare spell in London and the journey to his current team Atletico Madrid.
When asked if arriving at Atletico had “changed his life” Morata said: “Yes. It seems like the obvious thing to say to gain points with the fans but my family and I were coming from a really bad time in London.
“Here we have regained our happiness. Though many people may not believe it, we spent four or five summers wanting to come to Atletico. I am very happy.”
Morata was asked further about his time in London and “what was missing for him and his wife for them to not be happy in London”.
The Spanish striker said, “So many things… I had to receive a lot of injections in my back. I do not like needles one bit so I would get home in a bad mood.
“She could not eat anything because she was very ill and had nausea. We both spent a lot of time in bed. When you try to understand the person laying next to you who is ill but you are worse… It was a difficult situation.”
However, Morata assures he now has an “idyllic” life with two kids and three dogs.
He finished the interview telling fans that “it is only a matter of time” before Atletico will win the Champions League, adding that the team just have to “keep believing, keep working and continue being a family.”
Morata is on an 18-month loan from Chelsea to Atletico Madrid.
