This is the moment a 106-year-old woman who survived both world wars and the Spanish flu pandemic is applauded and given a bouquet of flowers by medical staff after she beat the coronavirus.
OAP Lucia Blanco was discharged from the Pinor hospital in the northwestern Spanish region of Galicia after 20 days fighting coronavirus which she caught at the Nuestra Senora de Fatima nursing home in the town of O Barco de Valdeorras.
Despite her age, she was not suffering from underlying health conditions and she was discharged after receiving her second negative COVID test, and her immunological test was negative too.
A spokesman for the regional health department told Newsflash “she arrived at the hospital for treatment and she beat it,” adding that Lucia’s only remaining relative is a niece.
The pensioner was born in December 1913 and lived through World War I and II, Spanish flu in 1918 and the Spanish Civil War from 1936 to 1939.
In the video, she can be seen being applauded and presented with a bouquet of flowers as she leaves the hospital, with a doctor giving a short speech.
She has now returned to the nursing home and its director Pablo Fernandez told local media the staff told her “we love you a lot Lucia” and the elderly woman answered: “I love you too even more.”
According to the latest figures from the Johns Hopkins University, Spain has registered 217,466 cases of COVID-19 with 25,264 deaths.
