Tot Crushed By Falling Table In Front Of Grandparents

The footage shows a young boy trying to climb a table in a building lobby before the furniture falls and crushes him in front of his grandparents.

The accident happened in the city of Chengdu, capital of Sichuan Province in south-western China, on 9th August.

CCTV footage from the foyer of the residential building where the three-year-old’s family resides shows him and his grandparents resting on the sofa.

The boy takes interest in the decorative console table which is standing against the wall and filled with ornaments.

But when he tries to climb the table, it tips over and falls on him, shattering on the marble floor, the video shows.

In the footage, the boy appears to be struck by the tabletop in the throat, while a trophy-like ornament also hits him on the forehead.

The clip shows his panicking grandparents then picking him up and calling an ambulance as what appears to be blood drips all over the floor.

The authorities the toddler was taken to hospital but declared dead shortly after.

The police are still investigating the case and say they have yet to determine whether he was killed by the table itself or an ornament.

They did not say whether the building’s management would be held liable.
