This is the moment high winds in a storm topple over a huge tree which pounds three cars parked in a supposedly safe spot while their hapless owners are nowhere to be seen.

The incident was filmed in the city of Sterlitamak in the south-western Russian republic of Bashkortostan during a period of storms and warnings issued by the regional Ministry of Emergency Situations.

In the clip, a row of trees is seen blowing in the wind as several cars are parked nearby.

One tree appears to split cleanly in the middle of the trunk and the top half falls onto three vehicles.

According to local media, felled trees have affected several Russian towns and cities and one eyewitness in Sterlitamak filmed a tree falling on top of several vehicles in a car park on Gogol Street.

Reports said that three cars suffered significant damage after strong winds felled the nearby tree.

The local authorities issued a warning one day before the storm which recorded wind speeds of up to 60mph.

The city of Ufa in Bashkortostan also experienced felled trees and power cuts, according to local media.

Netizen ‘Holms’ commented: “The Ministry of Emergency Situations told us to stay away from trees, billboards and other structures, what were the vehicle owners thinking?”
