This is the moment a man falls out of a swinging ‘Pirate Ship’ ride at a fairground as onlookers scream in shock.

The incident was filmed at a fairground in the municipality of Velez in the north-eastern Colombian department of Santander and was later shared on social media.

Footage shows the boat ride swinging from side to side before a man suddenly crashes to the ground and onlookers scream.

Fair organiser Ronald Vega said that the unnamed man was taken to hospital with unspecified injuries, but has already been released.

Vega also claimed that the man fell from the ride because he suffered a panic attack in the air and freed himself from the harness, but this has not yet been confirmed by investigators.

He added: “The family has asked for privacy and does not want to comment on the matter, although they said that it was a scary situation when the man fell from the top part [of the ride].”

After the incident, residents called on the local authorities to investigate the fairground organisers and confirm whether they had the necessary permits to operate the ride.

City mayor Leonardo Pico told local media that the fairground had all the required paperwork and the investigation into the man’s fall is ongoing.

The man, who has not been named in reports, survived the fall and was taken to hospital, where he is receiving treatment while the authorities investigate, according to local media. It is currently unclear if any arrests have been made.
