Crashed FedEx Lorry Dangles From Overpass And Blocks Active Railway In Indiana

These images show a FedEx lorry’s huge trailer dangling over the edge of a bridge and blocking an active railway after a morning accident in icy conditions in Indiana.

The accident took place on the Indiana Toll Road near the city of Mishawaka in St. Joseph County in the US state of Indiana on the morning of 26th January.

Dangerous road conditions led to at least two accidents on the Toll Road that morning, including one involving a FedEx lorry.

According to the Indiana State Police, a motorist in front of the lorry lost control of their vehicle, causing the FedEx driver to slam into the wall of the overpass.

The huge trailer then dangled over the edge of the bridge, blocking a rail track, with the driver’s cab jammed against the overpass wall.

The incident reportedly caused serious traffic delays for several hours until the scene was cleared.

Indiana State Police public information officer Sergeant Ted Bohner shared images of the FedEx lorry on social media along with a photo of another accident in the city involving a delivery van.

The van driver lost control on the overpass at Cleveland Road on the Toll Road and crashed into a side wall before ending up in the ditch below.

Sergeant Bohner said: “Bridges are very slick this morning. Both these vehicles lost control on slick bridges and ran off the Toll Road. Slow down and drive safe.”

Nobody was injured in either accident. However, Sergeant Bohner pointed out that it could have been a lot worse and called it a “major blessing” that both drivers got out alive.

He added that freezing conditions are expected to last for the rest of the week, so it is important road users slow down and take care.
