Mum Of Executed Protester Breaks Down In Tears In Street

This upsetting footage shows Mohsen Shekari’s mother breaking down in tears in front of the family home after hearing news of her son’s execution.

A second piece of footage shows the young man singing in one of his last videos before he was seized and put to death by officials in Iran.

Mohsen, 23, was executed by hanging on Thursday, 8th December, after a court found him guilty of moharebeh (waging war against God) on 20th November.

He had allegedly injured an on-duty basiji in the shoulder with a blade and blocked Sattar Khan Street in Tehran during a protest on 25th September, the court said.

A basiji is an individual member of the Basij, a paramilitary volunteer militia and one of the five forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

Demonstrators took to the streets on Thursday evening to protest his execution, independent media reported.

Mohsen, who worked as a waiter, had been forced by state officials into making a confession following his arrest, independent media reported.

He was also denied the right to choose his own lawyer for his court hearing on 1st November, according to independent media.

Independent media also said his family had been bullied into silence in order not to bring attention to the case.

The execution of 27-year-old rapper Saman Sayyadi, who is also charged with moharebeh, is said to be imminent.
