This is the moment a police officer is dragged along the road clutching the door handle of an Audi after the driver refused to stop at a checkpoint.

Traffic officer Sheng Zihang reportedly noticed the Audi saloon without a car insurance sticker and flagged the driver down in the city of Shijiazhuang, capital of Hebei Province in North China.

However, the driver surnamed Gao, aged 21, refused to produce any documents and failed to comply with orders telling him to pull over to the side of the road.

Dashcam footage shows Gao slowly reversing away from the officer, who tries to circle around and open the driver’s side door.

But as soon as the cop grips the door handle, Gao races off from the junction between Zhonghua South Street and Xinshi South Road.

The video shows the officer clinging to the handle and sliding along the road for dozens of feet before he loses his grip and stumbles onto the asphalt.

The officer is left smarting and trying to pick himself up off the ground as the white Audi saloon disappears into the distance.

Shijiazhuang police said Gao was eventually intercepted and arrested for evading justice.

He was found not to have a driving licence, with the vehicle registered to his girlfriend.

He remains in custody as further investigations continue into the 8th June incident.

Officer Sheng is receiving treatment and not in any life-threatening condition.
