This is the moment an 81-year-old female patient falls out of a hospital bed and suffers a traumatic head injury that reportedly caused her to slip into a coma and die eight days later.

According to local media, Maria Esther Espinar Palomino was being wheeled to another ward to undergo dialysis but staff had failed to notice a wheel had fallen off the bed and she hit her head when it toppled over.

The incident took place at the Hospital Alberto Sabogal Sologuren in the district of Bellavista in the western Peruvian capital Lima on 26th June 2018, but local authorities have decided to release the CCTV footage now.

In the video, the elderly woman is seen being wheeled into a hospital corridor by two nurses.

As the bed turns right, it overturns. Espinar Palomino appears to hit her head against a wall as she falls out of the stretcher.

According to reports, the 81-year-old had been hospitalised three days earlier with a high fever.

After falling from the bed and hitting her head, Espinar Palomino slipped into a coma and died eight days later.

An autopsy reportedly confirmed that the woman died from a traumatic brain injury that is believed to have been caused by the fall.

The local authorities have confirmed that they are investigating the incident but in a provisional ruling said they do not believe that hospital negligence was at fault.
