Suspect Karleen Biswanger was arrested after a neighbour reported the alleged assault on her 68-year-old boyfriend – not named – at the senior community complex where they lived in the city of St. Petersburg, Florida State.

Despite their large age gap, the two had been living together for over a year and had been “engaging in consensual sexual intercourse”, said officials.

Biswanger was taken into custody on 12th March and charged with one count of domestic battery after she “threw an avocado at the victim’s face causing injury to his right eye”.

She also struck him in the arm with a thrown “metal hanging rod”.

Officials say the alleged attack followed an argument.

According to police, part of the alleged assault was witnessed by a neighbour.

It is not clear what exactly the neighbour witnessed, but police said no alcohol or weapons were involved.

Biswanger reportedly denied hitting her boyfriend directly.

She was conditionally released just hours after being taken into custody.

Local media say Biswanger is no stranger to the law.

Last year, she was charged with throwing a nine-inch cardboard box full of writing utensils at her father, striking him in the chest.

And in 2015, she was reportedly charged with domestic battery after punching her then-boyfriend in the eye while “highly intoxicated”.

In both cases, the charges were dropped.

Biswanger has also been accused of leaving the scene of an accident, retail theft, driving under the influence, possession of methadone, possession of alprazolam, and driving with a suspended license, among other crimes.
