A 16-year-old girl and her boyfriend plotted to murder her cancer-suffering dad and staged a robbery to make it look as though thieves looking for his cannabis plants had carried out the act.

The teenage daughter, identified as N.Z.U. from the district of Bayrapmasa Turkey’s largest city Istanbul, was not on good terms with her father and wanted him dead. It is unclear why they were not on good terms.

The 16-year-old daughter and her boyfriend Abdulkadir Yavuz planned to kill her dad Recai U. during a staged robbery.

Yavuz and his friend Cihan Bedir entered the home with a gun and planned to take the victim’s 1.9 kilogrammes (4.2 lbs) of cannabis as well as his firearm and cash.

However, they failed to kill Recai U. and they were captured by security guards trying to escape from his home.

Recai U., who has stage-four throat cancer, said: “Two people tried to suffocate me with a pillow while I was asleep in bed.

“Cihan also pointed a gun at my head. I struggled and Abdulkadir started stabbing me.

“Cihan then tried to shoot me, but the gun jammed and I grabbed the knife to protect myself.”

When he was asked about the cannabis, Recai U. said: “It belongs to me. One of the guns is also mine. About nine months ago, I bought the cannabis and a set of scales from a man in the district of Fatih.

“I bought the scales to measure the quantity of cannabis I was taking and kept the drugs hidden as the cancer developed. Then I continued with my regular treatment.

“I am not a drug dealer, I bought it for my own personal use. I have used it for several years, but now my cancer is stage four.

“I don’t know what kind of relationship my daughter has with those people. I have never physically attacked her.”

After making a statement, the father was referred to court where he was found guilty of possessing drugs and released on bail. He has not yet been sentenced.

Meanwhile, his daughter has been found guilty of instigating the murder attempt while the two friends have been found guilty of attempted murder. They have not yet been sentenced either but have been detained.

In the Turkish legal system, suspects appear in court shortly after arrest and a verdict is often reached very quickly although sentencing can take longer.
