This is the moment a van driver cheats death thanks to his lightning quick reflexes after he dives out the way of a lorry that rear-ends his broken-down motor.

The footage shows Jin putting on his van’s hazard lights as the vehicle slowly rolls to a stop in the narrow motorway tunnel, which did not have a breakdown bay for him to use.

He calls the police on his mobile phone but suddenly remembers to set up a warning triangle.

He returns to his van but instinctively looks behind him towards oncoming traffic – and that is when he notices the blue lorry hurtling towards him.

Jin waves frantically at the driver but in the end leaps out the way a split second before it slams into the back of his van with force.

Jin escaped completely unharmed, while the lorry driver suffered minor injuries.

“It still scares me to think about it now,” Jin said, adding: “I cheated death.”

The violent accident happened on the Hangchang Expressway over the county of Anji in East China’s Zhejiang Province, where the van driver surnamed Jin suffered a tyre burst inside Shima Tunnel.

The CCTV footage shows just 12 seconds between Jin’s van stopping and the rear-end collision, which caused a sizeable traffic jam in the tunnel.
