This is the bizarre moment a Turkish biker speeds along a busy motorway with a large mattress between him and a passenger riding pillion without a helmet.

The incident took place on the D-100 highway between the districts of Kartal and Kadikoy in the north-western Turkish province of Istanbul at around noon on 19th April.

The unnamed motorcyclist was filmed transporting a near three-metre (9.8 feet) long mattress between him and the passenger riding pillion.

According to reports, the passenger on the back of the motorcycle, pictured holding the mattress, was not wearing a safety helmet.

The incident, which potentially endangered the lives of the two bikers and other road users, was filmed by a stunned motorist on their mobile phone.

In the footage, the passenger is seen holding the large mattress in front of him as the biker steers the motorcycle on the other side of their spongy divide.

After the footage was widely shared online, many netizens called the incident reckless and urged the local authorities to intervene and punish the biker.

Netizen ‘Benbilmem.ki’ commented: “What a stupid thing to do! Why would you put everyone’s life in danger? Just pay some professionals to move it for you.”

‘Ahmetkalka’ said: “Be a penny pincher like him and you are bound to die sooner than expected.”

It is unclear if the local authorities are investigating the incident.
