The young girl who was impaled by an iron bar that went through her throat before coming out of her mouth has survived the ordeal and been discharged from hospital.

Secil Su Catal, 8, fell on the iron bar while playing on a construction site near her house in the neighbourhood of Imranli in the district of Ceyhan in the south-eastern Turkish province of Adana, on 10th January.

The young girl lost her balance and fell on the iron bar, and it entered her body through her throat and came out of her mouth.

Eyewitnesses called an ambulance, and firefighters affiliated with the Adana Metropolitan Municipality were dispatched to the scene to assist the girl.

In the video provided to Newsflash by Utku Sagilir, the press consultant for the Adana Metropolitan Municipality, a firefighter can be seen cutting the iron bar protruding from the young girl’s mouth using a specialised tool, which appears to be an angle grinder.

Firefighters can be seen pouring a liquid on the metal bar to keep it cool, and sparks fly as they try to cut through it.

Two firefighters can be seen making sure that the girl stays still while another pours liquid on the metal bar. A fourth firefighter can be seen cutting through the iron bar, which eventually gives way to the angle grinder.

After the firefighters’ work was done, Secil was transferred to Adana City Hospital, where the iron bar stuck in her throat was removed during an operation.

Secil, who had been fighting for her life in the intensive care unit for five days, was taken out of the unit on 15th January and taken to her own hospital room as her condition improved.

She was recently discharged from the hospital after she was deemed healthy enough to go home. It is currently unclear if she is currently suffering from any complications following the ordeal.

It is currently unclear if the authorities are investigating the incident.
