According to the police investigation, Cleia’s husband, Jandirlei, was murdered at the behest of Cleia and her lover, Adriano Gino, in October 2016.

With Cleia and Adriano’s prior knowledge, two men, whose identities are unclear, staged an armed robbery at the couple’s house when they were both at home.

The men stabbed Jandirlei twice in the stomach, causing him to die in hospital two months later, unaware of his wife’s role in his injuries.

According to the police, Cleia arranged her husband’s murder because she wanted to separate from him and be with her lover instead.

However, according to Cleia, after Adriano moved in with her, his behaviour changed, and he began to threaten to kill her, her children and her mother if she ever left him.

The identities of Cleia’s children have not been divulged.

According to the police investigation, Cleia hired two brothers, 20-year-old Adriano dos Santos and 30-year-old Jose Graciliano dos Santos, to kill Adriano Gino in December 2017.

The brothers, who originally hail from the Brazilian municipality of Piranhas, were also arrested in March 2018 and confessed to the murder.

They told the police how they drugged Adriano Gino before striking him several times in the head with a hoe.

Using a car Cleia had given them as an advance payment for the crime, they then drove Adriano Gino’s dead body to a patch of dirt road in a rural area and buried it in a shallow grave.

The police accompanied the brothers to the scene of the crime, where they revealed where they had buried Adriano’s body and also his motorbike, which they had burned.

The police seized a revolver from Jose Graciliano’s house.
