This woman has been gunned down in her car by an ex-convict released from prison just two days earlier, who mistook her for his unfaithful girlfriend because she has the same vehicle.
Denise de Paula Camargo Severo, aged 32, was sat with her boyfriend in her car outside their home in the Brazilian city of Itajai as they were about to head to work on the morning of 9th June.
According to a witness, two men on bicycles then approached the white Hyundai HB20, fired a number of gunshots and fled without taking anything.
In CCTV footage recorded just metres from where the incident took place, several gunshots can be heard and three men can be seen running away from the scene on foot.
The first man appears to be a passerby fleeing from danger, as he takes a different route from the subsequent men, the second of whom can be seen firing his handgun.
According to news site Clic SC, the prime suspect had been released from prison just two days earlier.
According to reports, he had intended to murder his girlfriend, who had allegedly become romantically involved with another man.
Clic SC reports that he confused Denise with his girlfriend because they drove the same white Hyundai HB20.
After being shot, Denise and her partner, 27-year-old Diego Cardoso, were taken to a local hospital, reportedly by Diego’s uncle.
At the time of reporting, Diego was stable after being shot in the arm and leg. Denise, however, succumbed to her injuries.
Denise had been working as an operations manager in a logistics company since 2017. She had a bachelor’s degree in marketing and originally hailed from the city of Novo Hamburgo.
She was cremated in Itajai on 10th June.
The prime suspect’s identity has not been divulged and it is unclear if the police know the identity of his accomplice.
At the time of reporting, the suspects had not been found and no arrests had been made. The police are investigating the case.
