A Brazilian cleaner has raised eyebrows by ‘marrying’ a rag doll in a full-on wedding ceremony with guests.

Meirivone de Morais, 37, said she threw the unusual wedding bash “to attract attention” in the hope that a generous soul would gift her a house as a wedding present, according to local media.

The cleaner said she cannot currently afford to buy a property of her own in addition to having two kids to raise and a monthly rent of BRL 700 (GBP 92) to pay, which the money she earns cleaning houses barely covers.

The ‘wedding’ ceremony took place in Rio Paranaiba, a small town of over 12,000 people in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais, on Saturday, 18th December.

The bride’s friends, who call the woman Santinha, helped their pal to organise the bash, which featured decorations, a wedding dress and a party, like any other wedding. Thanks to her friends’ generosity, she barely had to cover any of the wedding costs herself.

In all, some 250 people were reported to have made it to the celebration, where they enjoyed the music, food and drinks as well as watching the bride ‘marry’ the rag doll named Marcelo.

According to local media, the woman was gifted a ‘honeymoon’ to the coastal city of Rio de Janeiro, which lies some 454 miles away from Rio Paranaiba as the crow flies.

Local media did not report who gifted her the trip, nor was it reported who she hopes will gift her a house.

Santinha’s and Marcelo’s marriage is not believed to have any legal basis.
