This is the moment a knife-wielding window cleaner stabs a rival worker lying on the ground as onlookers scream.

The incident took place in Moreno Square, in front of the headquarters of the Buenos Aires government, of the city of La Plata, in the eastern Argentine province of Buenos Aires.

The two men, both reportedly window cleaners who have not been named, are said to have begun fighting for reasons unknown. One of the men then reportedly pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim, who collapsed to the ground.

In the video, the knifeman can be seen repeatedly stabbing the victim in the chest as onlookers scream for him to stop.

According to local media, police officers and paramedics went to the scene and the victim was taken to San Martin Hospital.

The alleged aggressor was arrested minutes later on a nearby street and taken to a police station.

The prosecutor in charge of the investigation, Hugo Teson, charged the man with attempted homicide.

The officers reportedly found the suspect with blood on his hands and a 30-centimetre (12-inch) knife.

Reports state the victim remains in hospital but there have been no updates on his condition.

The police will reportedly use CCTV footage in their investigation which is ongoing.
