Star of Bundesliga leaders RB Leipzig Stefan Ilsanker has been accused of raping a 26-year-old Austrian woman at a party.

The party reportedly took place on 4th January in the Salzburg district of Liefer and the name of his accuser has not been revealed due to local privacy laws. According to local media, a complaint has been filed against the player in Salzburg.

The 30-year-old Austrian defensive midfielder has denied the allegation via his lawyer Kurt Jelinek, who told the Salzburger Nachrichten newspaper yesterday evening (Wednesday): “My client strongly denies this serious allegation. There are significant contradictions about what happened in the flat.”

Jelinek also told local media outlet Krone that several people had been at the flat at the time of the alleged incident.

According to ORF Salzburg, the lawyer was no longer prepared to comment today (Thursday), referring media outlets to a law firm in Berlin. RB Leipzig has also declined to comment.

The public prosecutor confirmed to local media that an investigation is underway into an allegation of rape made against the player.

The spokesman for the Salzburg public prosecutor, Dr Christoph Rother, confirmed the investigation to Bild, saying: “I can confirm that the Salzburg public prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation against Stefan Ilsanker because of the allegation of rape.”

He added: “The public prosecutor’s office in Salzburg has asked the Salzburg criminal police to carry out further investigative measures.”

The Austrian Football Association (OeFB) however stated today (Thursday): “The player has actively informed the OeFB about the allegations made against him and rejected them.”

They added: “We trust that the allegations will soon prove to be baseless.”

Ilsanker is the son of Herbert Ilsanker a former goalkeeper and coach at FC Redbull Salzburg.

Local media report that the former Red Bull Salzburg player was absent from training on Monday – reportedly suffering from a cold or a “flu-like infection” – and that he would like to leave the RB Leipzig in the January transfer market.

The native of Salzburg cited the lack of playing opportunities as his reason for wanting out, according to reports.
