This viral video with over a million views in less than 24 hours shows a husband repeatedly shouting “brake!” as his wife veers onto the wrong side of the road and ploughs into a row of scooter riders.

The bizarre accident happened on Shengping Road in the town of Dongfeng, which is in Zhongshan City in South China’s Guangdong Province.

Dashcam from the couple’s vehicle shows wife Ms Wu, 24, entering a busy junction but failing to slow down as she attempts to merge behind a red hatchback.

Her husband, Mr Chen, barks instructions from the front passenger seat, telling her: “Brake, brake!”

This appears to cause Ms Wu to panic, and she veers into the opposite lane right into oncoming traffic.

The nervous Ms Wu later admitted she “mistook the accelerator for the brake”, and the dashcam video shows her screeching in panic too as she is unable to stop the car.

The couple’s black SUV slams into a pedicab and bowls over passengers on four scooters before finally coming to a stop on the opposite kerb.

Meanwhile, Mr Chen could be heard shouting “brake!” a total of six times.

Local authorities said none of the accident victims was seriously harmed.

Ms Wu revealed she acquired her driving licence on 20th June.

She claimed to have been trying to avoid a bicycle at the busy junction when she lost control of the car, but the police are still investigating and have yet to announce formal charges.
