This woman and her brother-in-law have been arrested for murdering her husband with an axe because he was practising “sorcery” before stuffing his body into an outdoor oven.

The two suspects were arrested in Bamnak village in Chhoeu Tom commune in western Cambodia’s Pursat province after the victim’s body was found in an outdoor oven when villagers noticed a stench coming from inside.

Local media report victim Prak Ban, 49, had cuts to the back of his neck and ears believed to have been caused by an axe when his body was found some 1.5 kilometres from his home.

His wife, no name or age provided, and her 36-year-old brother-in-law have now been arrested on suspicion of colluding to murder the victim because he was practising “sorcery”.

Krakor district police chief Em Ron said: “Her brother-in-law is the one who killed the victim for allegedly practising sorcery.”

Investigators reportedly found the victim’s blood on the walls of the family home and the police are not ruling out more people having been involved in the murder.

The two suspects reportedly claimed they only saw Ban being murdered by others and they did not intervene.

It is unclear if they have been charged.
