Thousands of households in Freital and Tharandt in Saxony and in parts of Dresden were left without power after she scaled the pylon on 11th January.

Electricity chiefs had been forced to turn off the power to stop her being electrocuted after she climbed 20 metres (65.6 feet) up the structure.

The 40-year-old – who has not been named – stayed at the top of the pylon for seven hours before she was talked down by the emergency services.

Rescuers had been called to the scene at about 11am after a passerby spotted the woman climbing the structure.

Police spokesperson Marko Laske said: “At the same time, the high-altitude rescue service of the fire brigade and rescue workers were called in. They tried to establish contact with the woman.”

At least 8,000 homes were left without power. In Freital alone, some 26,800 people did not have electricity, according to local media.

Factories and steelworks also reportedly had to cease production for hours until power could be rerouted.

After several unsuccessful attempts to make contact with her, the woman was finally persuaded to climb down, with the all clear given a 4:30pm.

The woman had reportedly clung to the pylon for approximately seven hours.

It is currently unclear what prompted her to climb it in the first place.

But German media reports that it is not the first time she has pulled a stunt like this, climbing a high-voltage pylon near Freital in 2019.

That incident also caused a large-scale power outage in the region that lasted several hours.

Laske said: “The woman suffered hypothermia. She is currently receiving medical attention.”

Newsflash obtained a statement from the Saxony Police on Wednesday, on 11th January, issued shortly after midday, saying: “Due to a police operation on Deubener Weg, the electricity in the Freital area was switched off on Wednesday morning.

“In the morning, a woman climbed onto a high-voltage pylon. Alerted police officers are on site.

“At the same time, the height rescue service of the fire brigade and rescue workers were called in.

“They tried to establish contact with the woman. In order to avert the danger, it was necessary to switch off the electricity.

“It is unclear how long the operation and thus the power cut will last.”

It is currently unclear if the woman has been criminally charged.
