This viral video – already seen over 13 million times in 48 hours – shows a cosplayer struggling to contain an erupting Coke bottle he shoved into his mouth as the fizzy substance explodes.

The bizarre incident happened after the star finally managed to toss a Mentos mint into the bottle after days of trying.

The cosplayer who calls himself ‘Ramp’ has seen his short video liked more than 530,000 times and retweeted nearly 200,000 times on Twitter after the clip was posted on 28th September.

The footage shows Ramp, from the city of Hiroshima, which is in Japan’s south-western prefecture of the same name, sitting on his sofa and attempting to cause the Coca-Cola bottle to erupt using a Mentos mint.

The blue-haired cosplayer, who is dressed as Dice Arisugawa, an animated character from the Japanese rap group Fling Posse, casually tosses the Mentos towards the upright Coke bottle underhand.

When he actually manages to get the mint into the 2-litre plastic bottle, he appears to know exactly what is coming as he sprints up from his seat.

As expected, the soft drink erupts out the top of the bottle like a fountain, and the cosplayer is forced to grab it and shove it in his mouth in a vain attempt to prevent spillage.

The amusing clip shows the Coke spraying out of his mouth uncontrollably as the physical reaction continues on camera.

The Coke and Mentos eruption – dubbed the ‘soda geyser’ when first experimented in the United States in the 1990s – is caused by nucleation of carbon dioxide gas bubbles.

The cosplayer wrote: “Sod’s law – it goes in the bottle when I’m not trying.”

He also shared a second video, taken a day before, in which he tried countless times to get a Mentos mint into a bottle without success.

He can be seen repeatedly picking up his dropped mints before trying again.

Ramp said he “gave up” afterwards until he decided to try one last time with no expectations.
