This teenage girl has died as she slept after her mobile phone exploded while it was charging by her bedside.

The shocking incident took place in the village of Bastobe in Almaty region, in south-eastern Kazakhstan.

Local media report that the girl, 14, whose name has not been reported fell asleep with her phone charging by her bedside.

According to some reports, the girl may have been listening to music when her phone, the make and model of which have not been reported, exploded but this has not been confirmed by the authorities.

Cops reportedly believe that the phone’s battery exploded before dawn, killing the teenager.

Police officials have confirmed that the girl’s body did not show any signs of violence, and they believe that the phone explosion was the cause of death.

The case has sparked online debate as some netizens believe that basic safety information about their mobile phones should be explained to teenagers clearer.

‘Neznayka’ said: “This was an accident, so it is a good reason for cops to close the case? How about sharing this information with people living in Kazakh provinces, to every family in this country, and try avoiding similar situations in the near future?!”

Another one ‘4444’ disagreed: “This is not the first time accidents like this happen. Similar news has been covered in the media a number of times. It is everyone’s personal choice to keep their devices away from them, especially when their phone is charging.”

While ‘Ocean’ commented: “I feel so sorry for the girl and her family. Such a bizarre death…”
