This is the viral moment three stick-wielding students at an Islamic school repeatedly beat and kick a sobbing female classmate.

Reports also said the victim was disabled, although no details were given of the disability.

The incident was filmed at the Muhammadiyah Butuh Junior High School, a private Islamic school in the regency of Purworejo located in the south-western Indonesian province of Central Java.

The footage was shared on Twitter by netizen ‘Twitpos’ where it has gone viral with 3.4 million views.

According to local media, three male students, identified as 16-year-old T.P., and 15-year-old D.F. and U.H., have been arrested and charged with violating the country’s Child Protection Law.

Reports said that the teenagers could face up to three-and-a-half years in prison if convicted.

The victim, named as 16-year-old C.A., reportedly suffered heavy bruising to her right side in the classroom attack.

Schoolteacher Tutik said the incident took place in an eighth grade classroom while an adult was not present.

He added: “The children are troublesome, they’re also transfer students from other schools.”

Regional governor Ganjar Pranowo said that his Twitter account was “flooded” about the incident.

He said that he called the headmaster and that a report has been filed with the local police.

The investigation is ongoing.
